Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia’s Annual Youth of the Year Gala, Induction of G. Robert Aston, Jr. into Hall of Fame

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On March 28, 2024, at The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia will hold its Annual Youth of the Year Gala. The reception begins at 6p.m. with the dinner and ceremony commencing at 7 p.m. This event is black tie optional. In previous years the Youth of the Year Gala has raised more than $250,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia.

Once again, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia is proud to announce that Family Dollar is the Title Sponsor for this year’s gala. “We are delighted to celebrate the Youth of the Year and Junior Youth of the Year finalists for achieving the highest honor a Club member can receive,” said Kristin Tetreault, Chief Communications Officer for Dollar Tree & Family Dollar. “Our commitment to empowering youth to grow, excel, and become good citizens is perfectly aligned with Youth of the Year’s recognition for outstanding leadership, service, and academic excellence.

This year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia will honor two Youths of the Year: Gabriel and Isaiah. Three Junior Youths of the Year will also be honored: Harmony, Kiara, and Sharell.

Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is the premier youth recognition program of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This national competition is designed to promote and recognize a teen member’s service to Club and community, academic performance, and contributions to family and spiritual life.

Competition begins at the local level, where individual Clubs select a Youth of the Year from Club members, ages 14-18, and they then compete for the title of Youth of the Year of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia. The winner advances to the statewide competition and receives a college scholarship from the Lewis D. Hirschler Scholarship Fund. State winners then advance to one of five regional competitions around the country. Each of the five regional winners enters the national competition. Contestants receive prizes along the way and the national winner becomes the newest ambassador of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Since 2018, the Youth of the Year Gala has featured the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This year, we are proud to announce G. Robert Aston, Jr., Executive Chairman of TowneBank, as the 2024 Hall of Fame inductee. The Hall of Fame honors community leaders who are integral to the success of our organization and have made great strides toward ensuring that Great Futures Start Here.

“Words cannot express the impact that Mr. Aston has had on our community and the thousands of kids that come through the doors of our Boys & Girls Clubs daily,” says Kevin Will, President & CEO for Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia. “We are truly honored to induct him into Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia’s Hall of Fame. I can’t think of a more deserving champion of youth in Hampton Roads.”

Select sponsorships are still available. To learn more about sponsorship opportunities and ticket sales, contact Rebecca Myers, Resource Development Manager, at rmyers@bgcseva.org or visit www.bgcseva.org/youth-of-the-year.
